The Windward Sailing Club hoisted its first sails in 1972. Since then, club members have spent many enjoyable hours sailing their own craft, crewing for others, and sharing the theory and practice of sailing and seamanship. Individually and as a group we maintain and promote the ongoing practice of sailing, including both one person dinghies, as well as larger boats needing passenger and crew. The over-arching goal of the club is to provide camaraderie in all things related to sailing.
Over the years, club members have docked, daysailed, and crewed on a number of local lakes including Nockamixon, Leaser, Blue Marsh, and Wallenpaupack lakes in pennsylvania and also Round Valley and Spruce Run lakes in New Jersey. All provide an easy day sail for those who trailer. Also, many members still indulge their love for larger craft and bigger waters by sailing the Chesapeake Bay on a regular basis. Of course, when asked, any member will share stories of their blue water adventure who are lucky enough to have one.
Late fall and winter months are filled with monthly boating topics, picture tours by members, and guests lecturers covering a large variety of topics. Our Annual Gala and Holiday Party, including the infamous white elephant gift exchange, help all winter-over before turning our attention to warm weather and sailing again. Tohikon Launch at Lake Nockamixon has become our our most common destination, with a strong contingency of larger craft still cruising the Chesapeake Bay.
